The Dáil's Public Accounts Committee will today begin its probe into the sale of NAMA's loans in Northern Ireland.
Senior officials from the agency will be quizzed, with others to follow in the weeks to come. This inquiry was sparked following a report by the Comptroller and Auditor General. Seamus McCarthy issued a report earlier this month suggesting NAMA and ultimately the taxpayer could have missed out on as much as 230 million euro when selling Project Eagle, the loanbook in Northern Ireland. He'll be quizzed first this morning about why he thinks NAMA wrote down the loans by a bigger discount than they normally would have. But NAMA disputes his findings and officials from the agency will also be quizzed by TD's today. Others to appear in the weeks ahead include Finance Minister Michael Noonan. Meanwhile work is continuing between Government and the opposition on establishing a Commission of Investigation into Project Eagle.
