Significant increase in numbers on rent allowance in co. wexford
Wexford has one of the largest number of people in the country on rent allowance. The facts were outlined at a recent meeting of Wexford County Council showing Wexford has the highest rate per capita across the country. Fianna Fail County Councillor for the Wexford Municipal District Fergie Kehoe says there are currently some three and a half thousand people on rent allowance in the county. He says that's an increase of 122 per cent since 2006. Councillor Kehoe says the problem with people trying to find rental accomadation in Wexford is that the rental allowance has been capped and has been reduced over the last few budgets. He says that's causing people difficulties in trying to finding alternative housing because some landlords are getting a higher market rental value in the open market then they are through rental allowance.
