A man was airlifted to hospital after getting into difficulty off the coast of Rosslare earlier today (Sunday).
Emergency services were called to Rosslare Strand after a young person is believed to have become trapped while swimming in the sea.
Others attempted to rescue the child and five more people were hospitalised as a result.
The Coast Guard Rescue 117 helicopter was called to the scene to assist in the rescue and brought the stricken man to Wexford General Hospital.
It's believed all the injured parties are in a stable condition.
Speaking to South East Radio News, Rosslare Councillor and member of the National Ambulance Service, Ger Carthy said:
"The National Ambulance Service responded to an incident in Rosslare Strand on Sunday afternoon.
It involved an incident in the water where there was a couple of people taken from the water that required medical assistance.
The NAS employed a number of resources to the scene, and our colleagues on rescue 1-1-7 were also deployed to the same incident.
Six people were taken to Wexford General Hospital, with five of those by land and one by our colleagues on Rescue 1-1-7.
The incident was supported by An Garda Síochána, The Irish Coast Guard, and Rosslare Lifeboat Crew.
I want to take this opportunity to thank our colleagues in the emergency services and wish a speedy recovery to all those people who were involved in that incident in Rosslare Strand.
