Wexford Town is set for a spectacular evening of celebrations as the 75th Wexford Festival Opera officially opens tonight, with fireworks, live entertainment and thousands of people expected to gather along the Quays.
The landmark anniversary celebrations get underway at 6.30pm, with the official opening ceremony taking place at 7.15pm, followed by the traditional fireworks display over Wexford Harbour.
The Festival, which has become one of the town's most celebrated cultural events, will feature 75 events over 17 days, attracting performers and visitors from across Ireland and around the world.
Road Closures and Traffic Arrangements
Motorists are being advised to plan their journeys in advance, with a number of traffic restrictions in place to facilitate tonight's celebrations.
Wexford's Quayfront will be closed to traffic from 6.30pm until 8.30pm, between the junction at Redmond Square and Lower King Street.
Traffic management measures will also be in operation on the N25, N11, R730, R769 and R733.
Disabled parking will be available at the Crescent Car Park and on Trinity Street, while all public car parks will remain open.
Motorists should allow additional time for their journeys, particularly around the town centre and approaches to the Quays.
Celebrating 75 Years of Opera in Wexford
Tonight's celebrations mark a significant milestone for Wexford Festival Opera, which was founded in 1951 and has since grown into an internationally recognised cultural event.
The opening main-stage production, Pietro Mascagni's Iris, takes to the stage at the National Opera House at 8pm.
With thousands expected to line the waterfront for the fireworks, organisers are preparing for a memorable start to the Festival's 75th anniversary celebrations.
