Tony Carty and Maggs Jacob discuss Sing Out Loud in Wexford

More than 3,000 primary school children from across County Wexford are preparing to take to the stage of the National Opera House this month for the return of Sing Out Loud.

The hugely popular event runs from November 9th to 19th, with 13 performances celebrating music, singing and the confidence of young performers.

Sing Out Loud was established in 2012 with the aim of giving primary school children the opportunity to experience the excitement of performing in a professional theatre setting. The programme brings together pupils from different schools, with up to 250 children performing each night alongside a live orchestra and professional guest artists.

Tony Carty and Maggs Jacob, founding directors of Sing Out Loud, joined Alan on Morning Mix to discuss the work that goes into organising the annual production and the impact the experience can have on the children taking part.

This year's performances will feature Amy Penston as musical director, with Tony Carty, Maggs Jacob and Eric Hayes acting as hosts. Conor McCarthy will lead the live orchestra, while Extreme Rhythm will also return with their energetic drumming performances.

The organisers say Sing Out Loud is about much more than putting on a concert. It provides children with an opportunity to develop confidence, discover a love of music and performance, work as part of a team and create lasting memories.

The 2026 performances take place nightly at 7.30pm, with additional matinee shows at 2pm on November 14th and 15th.

Tickets are available through the National Opera House website.
