The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) has issued an urgent recall notice for a number of Pettitt’s Kitchen ready meal products sold in Pettitt’s supermarkets across the South East and Leinster due to the possible presence of Listeria monocytogenes.
The affected products were available in stores including Pettitt’s supermarkets in Wexford town, Gorey, Enniscorthy, Arklow, Athy and Bray.
In a Statement to South East Radio News the FSAI said:
"The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) is aware of the detection of Listeria monocytogenes in specific batches of Pettitt's Kitchen products. As a precautionary measure, a voluntary recall of the products is now underway. The FSAI has not been notified of any illnesses linked to the affected products. The FSAI advises consumers not to consume the implicated products and to follow the recall guidance issued.”
The FSAI is advising consumers not to eat any of the affected batches and retailers have been instructed to remove the products from sale and display recall notices in stores.
Listeria monocytogenes is a bacteria which can cause illness, with symptoms including mild flu-like symptoms or gastrointestinal issues such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea. In some cases, the infection can lead to more serious complications.
The FSAI says some groups are more vulnerable to Listeria infections, including pregnant women, babies and people with weakened immune systems, including older people. The authority says symptoms can appear anywhere from three to 70 days after infection, with an average incubation period of around three weeks.
A total of 35 Pettitt’s Kitchen products are included in the recall, with affected production dates between 8th and 10th June 2026 and use-by dates ranging from 16th to 20th June 2026.
Among the recalled items are Cottage Pie, Butter Chicken, Southern Fried Goujons, Roast Dinners, Fish Pie, Beef Bourguignon, Irish Beef Stew, Chilli Con Carne, Macaroni Cheese, Wexford Battered Rissoles and a number of soup products.
The FSAI says consumers who have purchased any of the affected batches should not eat them and should follow the recall guidance provided in stores.
A full list of the recalled products and batch details is available through the Food Safety Authority of Ireland.
