Vandalism Forces Closure of Public Toilets at New Ross Shambles Development

Public toilets at the Shambles town centre development in New Ross have been temporarily closed following an act of vandalism over the weekend.

The facility, which opened last year as part of the major redevelopment project in the town centre, was damaged to the extent that officials decided it could no longer safely remain open to the public.

Councillor Michael Sheehan strongly condemned the incident, describing the behaviour as unacceptable and damaging to efforts aimed at improving town centres across County Wexford.

The Shambles development, which included the public toilet facility, represented a significant investment in the heart of New Ross and has been widely welcomed since opening.

Council officials have now begun repair works, which include electrical repairs and replacement materials. It is hoped the toilets will reopen as soon as possible.

Councillor Sheehan said Gardaí are working with local authority officials to pursue all avenues in identifying those responsible, adding that he hopes the full rigours of the law will be applied.
