Wexford has more than 500 social homes in the pipeline as Minister Browne welcomes strong start to 2026

More than 500 new social homes are currently in the development pipeline across County Wexford, according to the latest figures released by the Department of Housing.

The Department's Quarter 1 Construction Status Report shows 523 new-build social homes are at various stages of development in the county, with 223 homes currently under construction and a further 300 at the design and procurement stage.

The figures were published alongside the latest social housing delivery statistics for the first quarter of 2026.

Wexford Minister for Housing, James Browne, said the figures demonstrate strong momentum in the county's housing programme.

He said the continued expansion of local authority-led housing delivery is essential to meeting growing housing demand and noted that Wexford County Council exceeded its social housing target last year.

The Minister said he wants to see that progress continue throughout 2026 and pointed to a number of recent reforms designed to speed up housing delivery.

These include a standardised design approach for new-build social housing projects and a streamlined single-stage approval process, which he says will reduce delays, provide greater certainty over project costs and help local authorities deliver homes more efficiently.

Nationally, 832 new social homes were delivered during the first three months of 2026, including 714 new-build homes – more than double the number completed during the same period last year.
