Customers in Wexford are being urged to check their JD Sports gift cards after the retailer confirmed it is reissuing thousands of vouchers to Irish shoppers who were wrongly told their cards had expired.
JD Sports is reissuing around 5,600 gift cards to customers in Ireland after applying its UK gift card policy to vouchers sold online since 2019.
Under Irish consumer law, gift cards must remain valid for at least five years from the date of purchase. However, some Irish customers were incorrectly informed that their vouchers had expired before that period.
The issue came to light following engagement with the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC).
Gráinne Griffin of the CCPC said the retailer acted quickly once the error was identified.
There is one JD Sports store in Wexford, located on Main Street in Wexford town, and customers who purchased gift cards online since 2019 are encouraged to check whether they may be affected.
Anyone who believes they may be entitled to a replacement voucher should contact JD Sports for further information.
