Minister of State at the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform Kevin Boxer Moran visits Enniscorthy

Speaking in Enniscorthy this afternoon Minister of State at the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform Kevin Boxer Moran says the situation regarding Enniscorthy and the flood relief scheme is ongoing.

His comments come as Enniscorthy TD and Minister for Housing James Browne confirmed there is currently no application for funding for the Enniscorthy flood relief scheme.Minister Browne has called on Wexford County Council to urgently submit a funding application.

The Taoiseach says ‘life, limb and livelihoods’ must be prioritised over everything else, when it comes to flood relief schemes.Calls are intensifying for such a measure in Enniscorthy, which is one of the places most impacted by flooding during Storm Chandra.A previous application for the scheme was rejected due to the presence of endangered freshwater pearl mussels in the River Slaney. Taoiseach Micheál Martin says the Government will do everything it can to speed up the delivery of flood relief schemes where they are needed most.

The National Emergency Coordination Group is warning of disruption to essential services over the coming days.It met again today and says severe weather and flooding may impact transport services.

Six counties are currently under a yellow alert for rain until midnight, they are Wexford, Carlow, Dublin, Kilkenny,Wicklow and Waterford.Met Eireann says the rain is falling in areas already impacted by heavy rainfall.
