Fianna Fail Justice Spokesman Wrote To Judge On Behalf Of Drug Dealer

FIANNA FAIL JUSTICE SPOKESMAN WROTE TO JUDGE ON BEHALF OF DRUG DEALER

Fianna Fail’s Niall Collins says he will not comment on a letter he wrote on behalf of a drug dealer until the man’s sentence is finalised.

The man’s defence team told a sentencing hearing in Limerick this week that his family circumstances placed him in the ‘exceptional category’, something which his barrister said was backed up by the letter from Deputy Collins.

Sentencing in the case is due to be finalised in October.

Labour Junior Minister Kathleen Lynch came under fire several years ago over a letter she wrote, testifying about the good character of the family of a sex offender.

This morning she said she did not think she would see something like that happen again.

“I think that politicians are in very difficult positions; I would have thought after my own experience that it wouldn’t have happened again” she said.

“I wrote on behalf of the family by the way, not on behalf of the person themselves”.

“And I would have thought after my experience that, I suppose, people would have learned not to do it” she added.
