Robyn O’Connor Celebrates Standout International Season with Major Award Recognition

Wexford rugby star Robyn O’Connor has capped off a breakthrough season on the international stage by being honoured at the Rugby Players Ireland Awards.

The 20-year-old winger was named Energia Women’s XVs Young Player of the Year at the ceremony held in Dublin, recognising her rapid rise in the Irish senior setup.

O’Connor was shortlisted alongside fellow internationals Katie Whelan of Enniscorthy and Dannah O’Brien, underlining the strength of emerging talent within Irish women’s rugby.

The former Loreto Wexford and Wexford Wanderers player also received nominations in two additional categories, including Try of the Year for her first senior international score against Italy, as well as Women’s Sevens Player of the Year alongside Alanna McInerney.

Her debut Guinness Women’s Six Nations campaign marked a significant step forward in her career, featuring four starts and two tries, including a standout performance in Ireland’s victory over Scotland at the Aviva Stadium.

O’Connor’s selection into the senior squad followed strong performances in the Celtic Challenge with the Wolfhounds, building on her earlier involvement in the national setup in 2024.

Her award signals another milestone in what has been a remarkable rise through the ranks of Irish rugby.
