Wexford’s South Main Street is losing one of its most iconic shops. Barkers, a fixture in the town since 1848, will close permanently by the June bank holiday weekend.
The Asple family, who have managed the store since 1986, announced the closure on Facebook, highlighting retirement as the main reason.
Over its long history, Barkers has been a go-to destination for gifts, homeware and fine craftsmanship
Following the closing-down sale, the building will be listed for sale.
The closure marks a significant moment for Wexfords Main Street which continues to face challenges in maintaining its traditional retail diversity.
