Cannabis Worth Nearly €3 Million Seized at Rosslare Europort

Revenue officers have seized cannabis with an estimated street value of almost €3 million following an operation at Rosslare Europort in Co Wexford.

The drugs were discovered today (Thursday) after Revenue officials stopped and searched an accompanied freight vehicle that had arrived on a ferry from Dunkirk in France.

During the inspection, officers used a mobile X-ray scanner to examine the vehicle's load, leading to the discovery of approximately 145kg of suspected herbal cannabis and 7.9kg of suspected cannabis resin concealed within the shipment.

The total value of the drugs seized is estimated at more than €2.94 million.

A man in his 20s was arrested by An Garda Síochána in connection with the seizure. He is currently being detained at a Garda station in Co Wexford under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Revenue said the seizure forms part of its continuing efforts to disrupt organised crime groups involved in the importation, sale and distribution of illegal drugs.

Members of the public and businesses with information relating to smuggling activities are encouraged to contact Revenue's confidential reporting service on 1800 295 295.
