People in Wexford are among those facing some of the longest waits for home care in the country, according to new research from Home and Community Care Ireland.
The organisation says there is an “Eircode lottery” when it comes to accessing home care, with significant differences depending on where people live.
HCCI CEO Joseph Musgrave says the contrast is particularly stark between Dublin and areas including Wexford.
He says the waiting list in North Dublin was zero at the end of 2025, while people in the Wexford area had one of the highest chances of being on a waiting list in the country.
HCCI says the issue has been a problem since 2021, although there has been some improvement in recent years.
The organisation is calling for greater consistency in the provision of home care, regardless of where a person lives.
