Wexford Mother To Bring Disability Services Concerns To Leinster House

A Wexford mother is among parents from across Ireland who will protest outside Leinster House tomorrow, calling for urgent action on the provision of disability services for children.

Amy Mahood will also speak at a presentation inside Leinster House, as part of the Every Child Matters – Disability Services Campaign.

Amy says her three-year-old son MJ is currently waiting for an assessment of need, occupational therapy and speech and language therapy, with no clear timeline for when he will receive support.

She says there has been no CDNT service available to MJ in Wexford since he was registered, and that the lack of access to early intervention is having a major impact on children and their families.

Amy says she had to leave her job as a healthcare assistant and is now MJ's full-time carer.

She wants politicians and decision-makers to not only listen to parents' concerns, but to take action and make the current system fit for purpose.

The protest will take place outside Leinster House from 11am tomorrow, with a presentation by parents including Amy in the AV Room at midday.
