A special fundraising walkathon will take place in Crossabeg this Saturday in memory of much-loved Wexford woman Triona Eviston. The ‘Walk, Talk and T’ event will honour Triona, who sadly passed away in September following a long and courageous battle with Leukaemia. Known for her kindness, generosity and love of helping others, Triona was someone who gave her time freely and loved nothing more than walking, chatting and sharing a cup of tea with family and friends. The memorial walkathon will take place at Crossabeg Community Pitch on Saturday, June 13th, from 10am to 2pm, with all funds raised going towards the Bone Marrow and Leukaemia Trust - a charity that supported Triona and her family throughout her treatment. The response from the community has already been overwhelming, with Triona’s daughter Mary saying the family has been blown away by the support shown so far. She says more than €15,000 has now been raised through their iDonate page ahead of the event, far exceeding what the family expected before the walkathon even begins. Mary said the Bone Marrow and Leukaemia Trust is a charity very close to the family’s hearts, after Triona received a bone marrow transplant last July. On the day, family and friends will come together to walk, share stories and remember Triona, while cards and prints featuring her own artwork will also be sold, with all proceeds donated to the charity. The fundraiser is a way to celebrate Triona’s life, honour her memory and give back to the organisation that supported her family during one of their hardest times.
