Concerns Raised Over Safety of Diversion Route Following Ferry Bridge Closure

Serious concerns have been raised about the safety of a diversion route in place following the closure of the Ferry Bridge outside New Ross, after a local councillor reported a frightening road incident involving one of his family members.

Cllr John Dwyer says his eldest daughter and her partner were involved in a distressing incident while travelling on the diversion route, which he describes as narrow and hazardous due to increased traffic volumes following the bridge closure.

He claims their car was forced off the road by an articulated truck while using the temporary route and that both occupants were left shaken after the incident. The vehicle involved had reportedly been purchased only the previous day.

Cllr Dwyer also raises concerns about what he describes as a lack of planning in relation to the diversion, saying the safety risks became apparent during peak traffic use of the route.

There has been no immediate response from Kilkenny County Council regarding the specific incident or the broader concerns about the diversion arrangements.

Motorists are being advised to take extra care when using alternative routes in the area while works on the Ferry Bridge continue.
