Construction Boom Continues in Wexford as More Than 1,300 Homes Are Being Built

A total of 1,361 residential buildings are currently under construction across County Wexford, according to the latest GeoDirectory Residential Buildings Report, highlighting continued growth in housing delivery across the county.

The report, prepared by EY using GeoDirectory data, shows that construction activity remains strong, with 991 new residential address points added to the county's database in the twelve months to June 2026.

While Wexford continues to experience significant levels of house building, demand for homes continues to outstrip supply nationally.

The county's residential vacancy rate stands at 2.9 per cent, below the national average of 3.7 per cent, indicating that relatively few homes are lying empty despite the increase in construction.

Nationally, more than 30,000 homes are now under construction, with Dublin accounting for the largest share at 6,107, followed by Cork, Meath, Louth and Galway.

The report also highlights the continuing rise in property prices. The average house price in Wexford reached €325,070 in the twelve months to May 2026. While that's well below the national average of €437,631, prices continue to climb as demand remains high.

Across Ireland, there were 81,373 vacant residential properties recorded in June, while the number of derelict properties fell by 3.5 per cent over the past year to 19,137.

Commenting on the findings, GeoDirectory CEO Dara Keogh said the latest figures point to a strong pipeline of housing delivery.

"The past twelve months has seen a considerable surge in residential construction activity and new address points recorded. The figures suggest that the medium-to-long term outlook is improving, but demand continues to outpace supply in the present, with house prices continuing to rise and vacancy rates remaining at record low levels."

Simon MacAllister, Partner at EY, said passing the 30,000 mark for homes under construction is a significant milestone

"We're seeing much of this activity clustered in high-growth commuter areas, reflecting where population growth and housing demand are most acute. The challenge now is to maintain this pace of delivery and ensure more new housing is brought to the market."

The report suggests Wexford is continuing to play an important role in meeting Ireland's housing demand, with construction remaining robust and vacancy levels among the lowest in the country.
