Consultation On Offshore Electricity Grid To Take Place Across Co. Wexford

EirGrid is to host a series of public information events across County Wexford as part of its latest consultation on offshore electricity grid infrastructure for Ireland’s south coast.

The 12-week consultation, which runs until December 8th, is seeking public feedback on proposed infrastructure needed to connect future offshore wind generation to the national electricity grid.

The plans form part of EirGrid’s Powering Up Offshore – South Coast programme and include potential landfall areas, offshore cable corridors, substation zones and onshore transmission routes.

The infrastructure is intended to support the connection of approximately 900 megawatts of offshore renewable energy from the Tonn Nua area, which EirGrid says would be enough to power almost one million homes.

Three open days will be held in County Wexford:

• Tuesday, October 13th – Carrig-on-Bannow Community Centre, from 12pm to 8pm

• Wednesday, October 14th – Gusserane Community Hall, from 12pm to 8pm

• Thursday, November 5th – Tír Na Nóg, Wellingtonbridge, from 12pm to 8pm

A mobile information unit will also be in SuperValu car park in Wellingtonbridge from 10am to 1pm on Wednesday, October 28th, before moving to Gusserane Community Hall from 2pm to 5pm.

Online consultation events will also take place on Thursday, October 8th and Thursday, November 26th, from 7pm to 8pm.

EirGrid says the events will give residents, landowners, businesses and community groups an opportunity to meet the project team, learn more about the proposals and provide feedback.

Submissions can also be made online or by post before the consultation closes on December 8th.
