Over €45 million will have to be spent in flood defences along the Barrow and Slaney rivers.
The Minister with responsibility for flood protection Sean Canney says we're paying for the sins of the past. In some cases walls up to 3m high will have to be built to protect buildings. A total of 845 properties along the Barrow and Slaney rivers may need protection from floodwaters. Minister Canney says we are going to have to pay for under investment in this area in the past.
