Enniscorthy Residents Ask For Help To Deal With Rat Infestation

A woman in Enniscorthy says she's afraid to leave her windows open due to a rat infestation in the area.

Charlene Morris lives in an estate in the town and says an unfinished house is the source of the rodents.

She says she has contacted local councillors about the issue but has been told there's nothing that can be done.

Ms Morris told the Morning Mix she's been highlighting this problem for a long time:

"This businessman was granted planning permission to build a house in a front garden where there's already a house. That was 6 years ago.

"The house is still not finished and well overgrown but not only that, we had to pick up a rat from the path two weeks ago which came from that garden.

"We're terrified to leave the windows and doors open and it's the same for all the residents where we are."

County councillors are being called on to engage with the residents on this issue.

Ms Morris says she has video evidence and has been highlighting the issue for years.

She told the Morning Mix she's gotten no support from her local representatives:

"I actually have approached all the councillors and one came back to my husband on Friday and said 'tell your wife that there's nothing we can do'.

"Every resident in the area has constantly went to these councillors and there haven't done anything.

"I have highlighted it on Facebook as has all the other residents."

The question was put to local independent councillor Jackser Owens on today's Morning Mix who said he couldn't comment but was looking into the situation.
