Bunclody Community College is celebrating after two of its students qualified for the Stripe Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition 2027.
Ari Ghosh and Sam Bolger will showcase their projects at the RDS in Dublin from January 6th to 9th, having been selected from thousands of entries from across the country.
Ari’s project, ‘EchoTrace’, investigates whether medical ultrasound datasets used to train and test artificial intelligence systems contain hidden patient overlap. The research looks at whether this could make AI technology appear more accurate than it actually is.
Sam’s project, ‘Fight the Firehose’, examines how best to tackle misinformation surrounding childhood vaccinations. His research looks at the illusory truth effect, where repeated exposure to a claim can make people more likely to believe it, even when the claim is false.
Both projects focus on important real-world issues, spanning artificial intelligence, medical research, psychology and public health.
The school says having two separate projects selected is a significant achievement, particularly for a relatively small school, and is a source of pride for the wider Bunclody community.
