Fears over wording in social welfare and pensions bill
There is concern in Fianna Fail at the wording used in the Social Welfare and Pensions Bill to be published later today. Minister for Social Protection Joan Burton is removing the term "An Post" from the bill and is replacing it with "payment service provider". That's according to local Fianna Fail TD John Browne is only going to heighten fears about the long term future of our post office network. He said post offices are very dependent on revenue from their social protection contract. Deputy Browne says if they lose the social welfare payment they will be facing serious difficulties.
