Fethard-On-Sea is set to benefit from a significant boost to its local playground, with €18,369 in funding awarded under this year’s Capital Grant Scheme for Play and Recreation. The funding, welcomed by Wexford Minister James Browne and local Councillor John Fleming, will go towards refurbishing and upgrading the playground to make it more inclusive and accessible for all children, including those with diverse needs.
Minister Browne, who worked closely with Minister for Children, Disability and Equality, Norma Foley, to secure the funding, expressed his delight at the positive impact this investment will have on the community. "This funding will provide vital support for developing vibrant, inclusive, and accessible spaces for children and young people in Fethard-On-Sea," said Minister Browne.
Cllr John Fleming, who has been a long-time advocate for the project, also welcomed the announcement. "It's great to see this funding come through after so much work. This grant will help create a safer, more inclusive environment where children of all abilities can enjoy quality play and recreation alongside their peers," he said.
The Capital Grant Scheme for Play and Recreation is designed to support local councils in improving access to high-quality play spaces, particularly with a focus on inclusion. Fethard-On-Sea is one of several communities across Wexford to benefit from the scheme this year.
With this funding now secured, the next steps include planning the playground's upgrades, with residents hopeful that work will begin soon to create a modern, accessible space for future generations to enjoy.
