Councillor Barbara Ann Murphy has outlined the key issues facing Bunclody, highlighting the town's pressing need for more housing, improved infrastructure and better air quality. Speaking today on Morning Mix Cllr. Murphy emphasized that Bunclody has not seen new housing developments in 20 years, creating an urgent need for affordable homes. She also called for more land to be zoned for housing to provide residents with quality places to live. Beyond housing, Murphy spoke about the importance of local services, such as schools and GPs and the town’s growing sense of community. Initiatives like the new playground and a planned river park demonstrate positive momentum along with strong schools and sports clubs. Traffic congestion, worsened by increased volumes since Brexit, was another major concern. Murphy stressed the need for improved pedestrian and cyclist safety on the N80 and pushed for both an inner relief road and a long-term bypass for Bunclody. She also expressed concern over air quality, worsened by traffic fumes and is advocating for more sustainable energy sources. Lastly, the councillor said there is a lack of basic amenities like bus shelters urging that this issue be resolved to improve comfort for public transport users. With a focus on sustainable growth, she believes Bunclody can thrive by addressing housing, infrastructure and community needs
