Former fianna fail councillor jailed for soliciting someone to kill 3 people

A former Fianna Fáil councillor has been jailed for three years for soliciting someone to kill a garda, a Revenue official and an accountant. Gary O'Flynn of Hayfield Drive, Whitechurch, in Co Cork has been given a five year sentence with the last two suspended at Cork Circuit Criminal Court. The 39 year old pleaded guilty to three charges of solicing a named person to murder Garda Mary Skehan, Revenue Official George Ross and accountant Patrick Sweeney some time between October 2012 and February 2013. The court heard that gardai began an investigation after being given a recording of O'Flynn talking about hiring a hitman. An undercover garda then posed as a hitman, and Mr O'Flynn handed him 1,000 euro as a deposit to kill the three. Imposing Sentence, Judge Sean O'Donnabhain said the damage, hurt and suffering that he caused the three people was incredible. O'Flynn served on Cork City Council from Autumn 2003, when he replaced his father, former Fianna Fáil TD, Noel O'Flynn, until he stood down in December 2008.
