Gorey is alive with traditional music this weekend as the Cuisle Cheoil Weekend gets underway, bringing four days of music, song and dance to the town.
Running from August 20th to 23rd, the festival celebrates Ireland’s rich traditional music heritage, with a packed programme of events taking place across Gorey.
The weekend includes live recitals, traditional music sessions, singing sessions and workshops, as well as set dancing and a céilí.
There will also be a number of lectures and presentations, offering an opportunity to explore the history and importance of traditional music in the local community.
The festival brings together musicians, singers, dancers and traditional music enthusiasts of all ages, while highlighting Gorey’s long-standing connection with traditional music and its history of hosting Fleadh Cheoil events.
This year’s programme also provides an opportunity to look back at that musical heritage while showcasing the next generation of traditional performers.
With events running throughout the weekend, Cuisle Cheoil promises to be a celebration of the people, music and traditions that have played such an important part in Gorey’s cultural life.
