Increase in Uninsured Vehicles on Irish Roads as Gardaí Seize Three in Bunclody Checkpoint

There has been an increase in the number of uninsured cars on the roads.

There were almost 105 and a half thousand uninsured private cars in 2025, compared with 101 thousand 881 the previous year.

It comes as Gardaí in Bunclody seized three vehicles yesterday including one with no tax since 2017, another without insurance, and a third lacking insurance, tax, and NCT.

A fourth driver was issued a Fixed Charge Penalty Notice after a toddler was found sitting on an adult's lap as a sixth occupant.

1 in every 15 cars on roads were unregistered last year, according to the Motor Insurers’ Bureau of Ireland.
