More than 300 people from the Hollyfort, Craanford and Monaseed areas attended a public meeting in the Amber Springs Hotel in Gorey on Monday night amid growing concerns over the proposed Kilmichael Wind Farm Development.
The meeting was organised by the 'No to Kilmichael Wind Farm' campaign committee and featured guest speakers. A lengthy discussion also took place regarding the potential health and environmental impacts associated with industrial-scale wind farms.
Several local residents spoke emotionally about their fears should the project proceed. There were also presentations relating to the possible impact of wind farms on agriculture, including concerns about crop production and potential effects on dairy farming and milk yields.
Developers Regnum are expected to submit a planning application to An Coimisiún Pleasála in September. The committee stated that specialist advisors have been engaged to assist the campaign in opposing the development. The group also announced the establishment of the 'Kilmichael Action Fund'.
Regnum encourages anyone with questions or an interest in the project to engage directly with them by phone of 087 2331340 or email kilmichael@regnumrenewables.ie
