Large numbers of dogs euthanised in co. wexford
County Wexford is way ahead of the rest of the country when it comes to dogs having to be put down. Last year 441 stray dogs were put down in the county an average of eight to nine per week according to figures from the Department of the Environment. In Dublin where the biggest population of dog owners are only 121 were put down where as in Cavan the figure was just three. A spokesperson for the Charity Dogs Trust said Wexford very much an area of high puppy farming where proximity to a port made it easy to ship dogs to Britain.
