Liam twomey explains reason behind decision not to run in next general election
Wexford Fine Gael TD Dr Liam Twomey has been outlining his reasons for deciding to quit politics at the next general election. The 48 year-old was first elected to Dail Eireann as an Independent in 2002. Deputy Twomey told Alan Corcoran on South East Radio's Morning Mix that his wife, Liz, and GP partner's scare with breast cancer decided his future political career. He said the committment that they have to their workload is too heavy and they felt something had to give. Deputy Twomey says he felt the only way around it was not to stand in the next general election and he went back to giving Liz more support in the practice.
