Major Affordable Housing Boost for Wexford as Three New Developments Launched

Wexford County Council delivers on its commitment to supporting home ownership across the county with the launch of three new affordable housing developments during a visit by the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, James Browne TD.

The announcement marks another significant milestone in the Council's Affordable Housing Programme and reflects the continued commitment of both local and national government to providing high-quality, affordable homes for individuals and families throughout County Wexford.

With the launch of An Lisín Mór, Coolballow, Cul Caisleán, Taghmon, and the upcoming phase at Roxborough Manor, Mulgannon, Wexford County Council continues to expand the supply of affordable housing while creating new pathways to home ownership for first-time buyers.

Wexford County Council has maintained strong momentum in the delivery of affordable housing since the beginning of 2025, the latest projects will constitute the eighth rollout under the Council's affordable housing programme, reflecting its ongoing commitment to increasing housing availability and supporting affordable homeownership opportunities.

Applications for An Lisín Mór, Coolballow have generated strong interest, reflecting the continued demand for affordable home ownership opportunities in the county. The development provides 20 high-quality, A-rated homes and forms part of the Council's wider strategy to support sustainable housing delivery.

The next phase of delivery will see the launch of Cul Caisleán, Taghmon, a development of 10 A-rated affordable homes located within walking distance of local amenities and just 15 minutes from Wexford Town. The scheme will provide a mix of two and three-bedroom homes finished to a high specification, with prices starting from €225,000 (net of Affordable Dwelling Contribution). Eligible purchasers may also avail of the Help to Buy Scheme.The Council has also confirmed the upcoming launch of a new phase of affordable homes at Roxborough Manor, Mulgannon, which will offer a mix of two, three and four-bedroom homes in one of Wexford Town's most sought-after residential locations.

Speaking during the launch, Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, James Browne TD, welcomed the continued progress being achieved through the Affordable Housing Programme.

"I am delighted to be home today in the Sunny South East to see progress being made on three important developments at ‘An Lisín Mór’ in Coolballow, Roxborough Manor in Mulgannon, and here in Taghmon. These three developments combined will provide almost 200 much-needed homes, including 43 Starter Purchase homes and 35 social homes.

"With almost €3.5m in funding from my own Department through the Affordable Housing Fund (AHF), these projects will help make home ownership a reality for local applicants, providing high-quality, energy-efficient homes and further strengthening opportunities for people to put down roots in their own communities.

"As highlighted by our Starter Homes Supports campaign, there are a range of schemes available to help get people moving into the home that's right for them. The delivery of affordable homes remains a key priority for this Government and the drive and commitment shown by Wexford County Council is exactly what we need to hit the ambitious targets that we have set out in our Housing Action Plan, 'Delivering Homes, Building Communities'."

The Minister noted that the successful delivery of affordable housing in County Wexford reflects the strong collaboration between Government and local authorities in addressing housing challenges and supporting sustainable community development.

To assist prospective purchasers in navigating the application process, Wexford County Council will host a series of information events in advance of the launch of Cul Caisleán, Taghmon.

These events are designed to provide guidance on eligibility requirements, the Affordable Purchase Scheme and the application process.

An in-person Information Launch Event will take place on 22 July 2026 at 7.00pm in the Taghmon Action Group Centre, Taghmon, Co. Wexford, providing an opportunity for attendees to meet members of the Housing Team and have their queries answered directly. This will be followed by an Application Webinar on 29 July 2026 at 7.00pm, offering practical guidance on completing an application through the Council's Affordable Housing Portal.

Prospective homebuyers are encouraged to take note of the upcoming application timelines across Wexford County Council's affordable housing developments. Applications for An Lisín Mór, Coolballow will close on 22 July 2026.

This will be followed by the launch of Cul Caisleán, Taghmon, with applications opening through the Council's Affordable Housing Application Portal on 5^th of August 2026. Looking ahead, a further opportunity for affordable home ownership will become available with the launch of Roxborough Manor, Mulgannon, Wexford Town, in early September 2026.
