Merck has announced the closure of its Life Science plant in Arklow, County Wicklow, by the end of 2028, resulting in the loss of 100 jobs. The facility, which manufactures ingredients for pharmaceutical products, was acquired by Merck in 2015 and currently employs around 100 staff. Following a strategic review, Merck decided to discontinue its Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) portfolio at the site. The company has begun consultations with staff and trade union SIPTU stressing that the decision was made after careful consideration of market dynamics and customer needs.
