Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, James Browne TD, has unveiled a major funding boost for local authorities under the Energy Efficiency Retrofit Programme (EERP), with Wexford County set to receive €5.2 million in 2026.
This forms part of a €140 million national investment aimed at retrofitting around 3,500 social homes across the country, improving the quality and sustainability of Ireland’s housing stock.
The Energy Efficiency Retrofit Programme has already had a significant impact since its launch, with over 11,000 homes retrofitted to date. The initiative has helped reduce energy costs for residents and lower carbon footprints, contributing to Ireland’s overall climate goals.
What Does This Mean for Wexford?
Wexford's allocation of €5.2 million will support the retrofit of several social homes in the county, providing local authorities with the necessary resources to carry out significant improvements. This investment will help meet the rising demand for high-quality, energy-efficient homes in the region, while also contributing to Ireland’s sustainability targets.
In addition to this funding, the programme will increase the average grant available per property from €34,000 to €38,000, ensuring that local authorities have adequate resources to improve the energy performance of homes.
This increase will make retrofitting more affordable and accessible for communities throughout Wexford and beyond.
