The story of the 1798 Rebellion will once again come alive in north Wexford as the Monagear Pike Group stages its annual outdoor performance at ÁR mBréacha, the House of Storytelling, Ballyduff, Camolin, on Saturday, July 18, at 4pm.
The free community event celebrates one of the most significant chapters in Wexford's history, bringing together local actors, volunteers and history enthusiasts to recreate the events of the rebellion in an engaging and accessible way.
The performance takes place at ÁR mBréacha, the House of Storytelling, Ballyduff, Camolin, Co. Wexford, Y21 AH98, a unique venue dedicated to preserving and sharing local stories and heritage.
Speaking on Morning Mix, Fr. Jim Finn explained how the House of Storytelling was established as a place where local history, folklore and culture can be shared with future generations. Its setting provides a fitting backdrop for telling the story of the 1798 Rebellion, a defining moment in Wexford's past.
Representing the Monagear Pike Group, Angela Kelly and Neil Matthews outlined how the annual play has become a much-anticipated community tradition. The production features a large cast of local volunteers who dedicate months of preparation to bringing the story to life each year.
As well as highlighting the bravery and sacrifice of those involved in the rebellion, the organisers hope the event will encourage younger generations to learn more about their local history while providing an enjoyable afternoon for families and visitors alike.
Admission is free, with charity donations welcomed on the day. Refreshments will be available, and there will also be a raffle, with proceeds supporting local causes.
The organisers are encouraging people from across County Wexford and beyond to make the trip to Ballyduff and experience a unique celebration of local history in a setting dedicated to storytelling and heritage.
