A motorist was detected travelling at 131 kilometres an hour in an 80-kilometre zone at Barntown in County Wexford during the October Bank Holiday weekend.
The driver was clocked on the R738 on Sunday, October 25th travelling 51 kilometres an hour above the speed limit.
The detection was among almost 3,500 speeding offences recorded nationally during the first four days of An Garda Síochána's Bank Holiday Roads Policing operation.
Gardaí also arrested 146 people on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
More than 300 motorists were detected either holding a mobile phone while driving or failing to wear a seatbelt.
Two people lost their lives in separate road collisions during the first four days of the operation, bringing the provisional number of road fatalities in Ireland this year to 153.
The operation, which began last Thursday, concludes today, Tuesday, October 27th.
Gardaí and the Road Safety Authority are urging motorists to slow down, avoid distractions and never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Road users are also being reminded to take particular care around pedestrians and cyclists as darker evenings increase the risks on Irish roads.
