Motorists travelling through Wexford town are being advised to allow extra time next week as traffic restrictions come into place on Wexford Bridge.
Wexford County Council says a Stop-Go traffic management system will operate on the R741 Wexford Bridge from Monday, October 5th until Friday, October 9th.
The restrictions will be in place each day between 10am and 3pm.
Wexford Bridge is one of the main routes into and out of the town and the traffic management measures are expected to cause delays, particularly on the approaches to the bridge.
Drivers travelling between Wexford town and the north side of the Slaney are being advised to plan ahead and allow additional time for their journeys.
Speaking to South East Radio News Cllr Robbie Staples said the purpose of these works is to carry out a detailed structural investigation of the bridge.
For health and safety reasons, the assessment must be completed during daylight hours, as the nature of the inspection cannot be safely undertaken at night.
A full traffic management plan will be in place throughout the works.
To minimise disruption, the investigation will take place between 10am and 3pm, avoiding the morning and evening peak periods and ensuring road users experience as little inconvenience as possible.
Motorists are being urged to take extra care while travelling through the area and to follow the directions of traffic management personnel.
