Around 500 people in recovery from addiction are expected in Wexford next week for the 40th annual regional convention of Narcotics Anonymous.
The three-day event will take place at Whites of Wexford Hotel from Friday, November 6th, to Sunday, November 8th, bringing together members of the fellowship from across Ireland and beyond.
Organisers say the convention will celebrate recovery and provide an opportunity for people affected by addiction to connect and share their experiences.
Three events will be open to the public and press, including the opening ceremony on Friday at 8pm and the main speaker event on Saturday at 9pm. A closing ceremony will also take place on Sunday.
Speaking on Morning Mix, attendee Mick shared his own experience of addiction, describing how he lost his home and family and eventually found himself sleeping in recycling bins.
He said he had struggled with anxiety and feelings he could not cope with, and that drugs had become the most important thing in his life.
Mick explained that his journey towards recovery began after members of Narcotics Anonymous visited him in a treatment centre and shared their own experiences.
He said hearing from people who understood what he had been through gave him hope for the first time in many years.
Narcotics Anonymous is a non-profit fellowship where people support one another in their efforts to stop using drugs and remain clean.
