National bus and rail union to hold national day of action
In badNews for commuters across County Wexford, the National Bus and Rail Union's announced it's to hold a national day of action, including work stoppages, on May 1st. It's in protest at Government plans to privatise 10 per cent of the country's bus routes. NBRU members at Bus Eireann and Dublin Bus recently voted in favour of industrial action over the proposal, after 7 months of LRC talks failed to reach any conclusion. In addition to the work stoppage, a series of marches will also take place at urban centres across the country on May 1st, including a march by NBRU members on the Dail. Meanwhile, SIPTU members at Dublin Bus and Bus Eireann are meeting this afternoon to discuss a possible strike. 90 per cent of its members also recently voted in favour of industrial action over the privatisation plans.
