A new quarter of million euro graveyard is to be opened in Murrintown in South Wexford.
The two point eight acre site formed part of the Johnstown Castle Estate. As such permission to change the use of land to a cemetery had to got from both the Dail and descendants of the Lakin Family who owned Johnstown before it was taken over by the state. The graveyard will be able accommodate 346 burial plots and the work is being overseen by a local cemetery committee.
