New ross faces massive clear up following flood damage
A massive clear up operation is under way in New Ross after the River Barrow burst its banks at Marshmeadows this morning. Several people had to be rescued including a pregnant woman. Up to four feet of water cuased havoc and extensive damage to a number of business premises with many owners left with no choice but to close. Martina Reidy - owner of Sids Diner - described the deluge that engulfed her premises as a mini tsunami. School children had to be rescued from a schoolbus just before 9 o'clock. There has been severe criticism of the local authority for not providing sandbags overnight and for not bringing in water pumps to allieviate the problem. The fear now is tonight's high tide at 9.20 and again tomorrow at 10.30.
