It's hoped a newly refurbished and expanded library for New Ross will be open to the public in 2028.
The €3.3 million project is underway to transform the building which was first opened in the 1980s.
It's been confirmed the old courthouse in the town will be converted into a temporary library for the duration of works.
Eileen Morrissey is the County Librarian and says it's about time the facilities had a bit of a glow up:
"We're hoping to get that project started early next year and and have an opening in 2028.
"It'll include a separate meeting room for events and community activities, a sensory room and a range of extended facilities that are not currently available.
"We're really excited about that project and can't wait to get it off the ground really."
The works are being carried out as the Wexford Library Service says the current facilities are bursting at the seams and they need to expand their operations.
The works will take around 12 months to complete with the building set to almost double in size.
Eileen says this will help transform the entire Library Park area in the town.
"The library was built around 1981 and is in badly in need of an extension and refurbishment.
"Thankfully we have been successful in receiving some funding from the Department of Rural and Community Development and resources from Wexford County Council to invest in the extension."
