No luas trams today or tomorrow
Dublin commuters face further disruption today as a second 48-hour strike by Luas workers got underway this morning. Staff want wage hikes of up to 54 percent over five years which Luas operator Transdev says it cannot afford. Up to 90,000 commuters face travel disruption today and tomorrow, as drivers strike in a row over pay. Further action is planned for March 8th and on St Patrick's Day - March 17th. But Gerry Madden from Transdev says that a resolution can only be reached if both parties come to the table. "My sincerest apologies to them and I will be doing everything that is reasonable to try and find a solution where they're not put through this massive inconvenience for too much longer" he said. "But at the same time...it's a partnership - we have to find a solution, it can't be one partner who is doing all the work to try and find a solution". "At the moment that's all that's happening, it's Transdev that's working hard to try and find a solution - SIPTU are not" he added.
