One of the biggest employers in the south east to shed 200 jobs
200 jobs are to go at the Bausch and Lomb plant in Waterford. The announcement was made at a meeting with staff this morning - remaining staff are facing a 20 per cent pay cut. The company says the cost reductions are needed to keep the plant open. Workers will be called in for discussions from next Tuesday. SIPTU have called on the Government to do all it can to save the jobs.
