North Wexford Deputy Fionntán Ó Súilleabháin has welcomed progress on the long-awaited Primary Care Centre for Gorey and North Wexford, with the HSE confirming that Stage 2 of the tender process was advertised in late 2025. However, he cautioned that definitive timelines would only be set after the tender evaluation process concludes in Q2 2026.
Despite this positive development, Ó Súilleabháin raised serious concerns over the ongoing GP shortage in the region. He highlighted the struggles of constituents who cannot find a GP, with some waiting lists now reaching up to 200 patients. He also stressed that private patients have no support from the HSE in securing a GP, unlike those with medical cards.
Deputy Ó Súilleabháin has contacted the Minister for Health regarding the crisis and called for urgent action.
He emphasized that access to a GP is a basic necessity especially with the region's growing population and rising healthcare demands.
