Public service reform plan promises better outcomes

The government has published details of the next phase of its Public Service Reform Plan. It sets out ambitious objectives and actions for the next three years aimed at protecting and improving services. It includes freeing up resources by making existing processes more cost effective and efficient - along with greater digitalisation. The plan also proposes using alternative models to improve service delivery - along with more openness, transparency and accountability. The Public Expenditure and Reform Minister Wexford's Brendan Howlin says the new public sector pay deal will be used to deliver the plan. "Haddington Road agreement will act as a key enabler for delivery of the next phase that we've set out today" he said. "The agreement will deliver an additional 1 billion reduction in the cost of service pay and pensions by 2016; importantly, it'll also provide a total of 15 million additional working hours across the public service" he added.
