Irish Rail has welcomed theNews that strike action - planned by SIPTU and the NBRU for the All-Ireland finals weekend has now been called off. The move follows a breakthrough in talks in the early hours of this morning at the Labour Relations Commission. Irish Rail has agreed to freeze pay cuts at the company for three weeks while workers are balloted on a revised set of proposals following the long running row over pay-cuts. Three other strike dates planned for this month have now been called off. Barry Kenny is Spokesperson for Irish Rail. "For our customers we're delighted that the threatened industrial action of the 7th, 8th, 21st of September has been called off" he said. "A set of proposals emerged, with the assistance of the LRC, which we feel help address all concerns of the future of financial stability of Iarnrod Eireann, and the concerns of trade unions" "So to allow for a ballot of that we are pausing the pay measures for a period of three weeks" he added.
