The Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate, Environment and Energy will travel to County Wexford this Friday to examine the ongoing ecological issues affecting Lady’s Island Lake.
The off-site meeting, chaired by Naoise Ó Muirí, will take place at Wexford County Council offices and will focus on progress made following recommendations contained in the Committee’s report on the Environmental Protection Agency’s CLEAR study into the lake.
The Committee previously outlined seven recommendations aimed at supporting the long-term restoration and protection of Lady’s Island Lake, including stronger regulations and farming practices near large water bodies.
Friday’s meeting will hear from the Strategic Oversight Group for Lady’s Island Lake, along with representatives from the Save Lady’s Island Lake Campaign Group and the Lady’s Island Lake Drainage Committee.
Deputy Ó Muirí says the lake represents a stark example of environmental decline in Ireland and says the Committee is seeking updates on what measures are needed in both the short and long term to improve conditions at the site.
