Raw sewage discharges have been eliminated in four County Wexford communities as Uisce Éireann continues to invest in wastewater infrastructure across the county.
Improvements in Kilmore Quay, Arthurstown, Ballyhack and Duncannon have helped protect local coastal waters and improve environmental conditions.
Meanwhile, a €6.7 million wastewater upgrade is progressing in Tagoat, aimed at increasing capacity, reducing the risk of sewer flooding and supporting future housing and development.
The improvements come as the latest Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) report shows that 93% of Uisce Éireann's wastewater treatment plants nationally are now compliant with EU standards.
Uisce Éireann invested €454.4 million in wastewater services nationwide during 2025, bringing total investment since 2020 to more than €2.5 billion.
Niall Horgan, Uisce Éireann's Wastewater Compliance Senior Manager, said the improvements in Wexford demonstrate the benefits of sustained investment.
"The progress we are seeing in Co Wexford shows what sustained investment can deliver for communities and the environment."
However, the utility acknowledges that challenges remain, including ageing infrastructure and operational incidents highlighted by the EPA.
Uisce Éireann says further investment and modernisation will remain a priority as it works to improve wastewater services and protect waterways across the county.
